ERA Seeks Rider Reps For Abandonment Insurance Review Panel

British Eventing are forming an independent Abandonment Insurance Review Panel to review the current provision and make recommendation to the Board regarding the cover required for the 2022 season onwards.

ERA has been invited to supply 2 riders - an amateur member and a professional rider, to form part of the panel.

Scope
Specifically, the Panel will consider:
 
  • Value for money of current offering
  • Alternatives to cover – to include but not limited to ‘opt in/ opt out’, percentage coverage of entry fees, change of provision of cover – ie to limit circumstances in which cover is provided, and whether any cover at all is required..
  • When considering options the following factors should be included: tax efficiencies, claims process and period to refund members

Frequency of Meetings 
At the discretion of the Chair, but in any event not less than monthly. 
 
Reporting
Minutes in the form of summary action notes will be prepared for every meeting and sent promptly to all members of the Committee and provided to the Board. 
 
The Panel will report to the Board following conclusion of their review with their recommendations, and in the interim as the Chair of the Panel feels necessary.  
 
A final report will be published to the membership 
 
Remuneration
The Panel serves as a volunteer body. Those members who are existing BE employees or Board members are expected to fulfil their roles on the Committee within the terms of their existing contracts.  

Principles
The following principles will be applied by the Panel in carrying out its work: 

  • All work will be conducted in an open and transparent way, with the final recommendations being published to the membership.
  • The Panel shall be given access to whatever information held by BE that the Panel requires to enable it to fulfil its responsibilities.
  • The Panel is entitled to engage with any person they feel appropriate to ensure the best possible recommendations to the BE Board. The BE CEO will be kept informed of any proposed external engagements. 
  • The Panel shall not be permitted to commit BE to any contractual arrangements, or to any spend, other than pursuant to delegated authority from the Board
  • The Panel will manage information appropriately and carefully for the purposes of delivering on its aims and objectives and will not disclose information to anyone other than BE staff, the BE Board, BE members and key stakeholders. 
  • Those representatives of stakeholder groups (ERA, BEOA and EHOA) shall be responsible for ensuring that the views of their members are appropriately considered.
  • The Panel will manage information appropriately and carefully for the purposes of delivering on its aims and objectives and will not disclose information to anyone other than BE staff, the BE Board, BE members and key stakeholders.

Applicant Requirements:
Applicant riders must have the following experience and attributes:
  • A strong commercial understanding
  • No existing commercial relationships with any equestrian insurance provider
  • Good communication skills
  • The ability to present unbiased opinion and argument 
  • Prior insurance experience would be a bonus
  • The accountability lines will be into ERA of GB, but the applicant is to act independently and speak on behalf of all riders based on their own personal experience
